Scarlet Emily

I rage, I fight, I listen, I laugh. But mostly I lost my idealism in my mid 20s. I've learned that ism's are apparent in every aspect of life and there's not much that can be done about them unfortunately. But I still write on this blog because it relieves my stress and makes life seem a little less meaningless.

I wish I was a college student so I could have this week off.  Instead I am an adult and have to work.  I get thursday off paid.  Thank god.  And friday if I want it, but not paid.  WTF?????

Everyone else has it off paid, but apparently I do not because I wasn’t working there when they swapped the day before the 4th of July for this holiday.  If the guy who started working after me gets paid for it, I’ll be fucking pissed and whoop up a storm.  So I will be working on Friday, though I have far more important things to be doing in terms of career preparation.  Fuck this stupid job.  Fuck my stupid boss, and just fuck it.  Fuck workiing on holidays!  I’m gonna buy myself something fancy and nice just for working it.  Suggestions?

He’s Just Not That Into You seems like a glaring omission here, but other than that, a fun article.

Thank You Rachelhills.  Fantastic link.  I would also like to add the horribly sexist The Ugly Truth.  When a movie’s supposition is that a woman has to act in certain ways to attract any man (ex. dress sexy, have long hair, don’t ask him questions, let him be in charge) I am disgusted.  The movie tries to save itself at the end when the sexist male lead Gerard Butler falls for Katherine Heigl’s character and when she asks him why he says, “I don’t know, because I’m crazy.”  And not for all the supposed sexist reasons….god I hated this movie.

I cook meals with the full intention of having leftovers.  I love to cook, but don’t often have time to, but I don’t eat out for health reasons.

Tomorrow will be chicken mole.  First time making it, hope it turns out ok.

Convo on FB. Is it ok that I am little upset with my friend Eric for his comments?

Wendy  women’s health care is under attack again. Twice in one week. Now more lax standards for pap smears. Arghhh. Apparently women’s health doesn’t matter, but we feminists already knew this.Yesterday at 7:32am · Comment ·LikeUnlike · View Feedback (10)Hide Feedback

Julie  No mammograms?! WTF, have you heard the bs justification?Yesterday at 7:51am ·

Wendy  yeah because women under 50 have firm breasts and there are too many false positives, which is harmful to the women who get the false positives. We are literally under attack. No mammograms or pap smears. It is preventative healthcare. Why do men get preventative healthcare? Yesterday at 10:03am ·

Tina Health care authorities should NOT be able to tell you when you can be treated!!!!!!!!!Yesterday at 10:34am ·

Danielle I wanna know who came up with this anyway!? I saw we get a petition going and write to congress heheYesterday at 12:35pm ·

Wendy  what I am concerned about is how this will affect our health insurance. Will I be unable to get my annual pap smear because my insurance won’t cover it? Sorry boys, I know I am talking about pap smears, but you don’t want the women in your life dying.Yesterday at 2:09pm ·

Ryan  Sometimes we do want them to die.Yesterday at 5:07pm ·

Eric  One of the advocates for the change was a woman oncologist…govt should not tell u what u cant or can do but they should tell u when u are wasting money.11 hours ago ·

Wendy I completely understand what you are saying Eric, but since when is preventative care a waste of money. These annual visits get women in the door to the doctor, which is important. What about healthcare for men, it is not under attack. Is this a precusor to obamacare? No man should be able to tell me what preventative care I should be able to take with my own body.4 hours ago ·

Eric  That’s why our healthcare will never have the consumer awareness it needs; people make care decisions while insulated from costs. I agree women are under attack, but not from this information; it’s from a commitment to the comforts of the status quo and fear of changes in how we make choices. Give me info i can use and keep the reform. 45 minutes ago ·

Wendy I disagree with that statement completely. I think consumers are very aware of the cost, particularly those without insurance or with inadequate insurance. Early detection of breast cancer and cervical cancer are on the best ways to treat them since there is no cure. How do you feel Eric about one of the reasons they want to stop doing mammograms on younger women because younger women’s breasts are firm and produce false positives? Information is dangerous when it is produced in a bubble. Where are the other independet results and research reports? And if you agree women are under attack, I am confused as to who you think they are attack from, since it is not the information from the reports? Friendly debate welcome old friend :)about a minute ago ·

Yeah I’m gonna admit it, I am kind of excited to watch MTV’s Jersey Shores.  After living in NYC for a short period, NJ always interested me, how different it was.  NY’ers do people fro NJ remind you of people from Long Island?

This is how I want to spend my entire weekend.  But I’m up.  I have set a deadline of 3-5 pages to be written.  Exam for my portfolio for the community college job must be finished in rough draft form at least.  Where is my actual weekend?

Lack of Decorum

One of the managers at my work called me “the help” today.

Well I am documenting that as another inappropriate thing said to me in the workplace for the file I am keeping against the company.

What books will Americans read without Oprah to guide them?

Mid-American women will suffer from illiteracy now.  They will walk into Barnes and Noble and not understand the words on the titles of books.
